Benefits of Working Remotely

The year 2020 was definitely one to remember. Covid-19 forced the world to adjust to a new normal. It forced many companies all over the world to send their employees home to work remotely. It was an adjustment for everyone, but what was discovered are the benefits of working from home. Whether you are already working from home or thinking about finding a job to work from home, you should check out this list of benefits of working remotely.

1. Saving Money

Who doesn’t enjoy saving money? Honestly, it’s one of the best feelings in the world to know that there will be some extra money in the bank account. Working remotely can absolutely help you save money because you will not be bearing the cost of commuting. You will save on gas, car maintenance, public transportation, parking fees, or whatever else commuting to work usually costs you. But the savings will not stop there. You will save on clothes because you won’t have to buy those polished suits (or dry clean them). Also, you will save on food costs since you won’t be eating lunch out with the coworkers anymore. It may not seem like much but not having to spend money on all these things combined will absolutely add up.

2. Customizable Office Space

A great benefit of working remotely is being able to create a unique office space. You can create your office wherever it fits into your life. Whether you want to use the breakfast bar in your kitchen as a standing desk or you want to buy a more ergonomic chair for your desk, the decision is completely up to you. Not to mention all the decorations you can put around you to keep you motivated. The office space is in your hands.

3. Better Work-Life Balance

Many remote jobs also offer flexible schedules, which means employees can start and end their day as they choose, as long as deadlines are being met, and productivity doesn’t go down. This is beneficial because you can work around school schedules, medical appointments, and errands that need to get done. If your job does require a set schedule, don’t fret! There will be times where you will have breaks, and you can use those breaks however you want. Even if you only have 15 minutes, you can use that time to do something you wouldn’t be able to do in a traditional office: play some tunes on your piano, take a power nap, or even do a quick workout video. However you choose to use those valuable minutes will most likely leave you feeling more refreshed than if you would have been in a traditional office.

4. Keeping in Touch More Effectively

Since you won’t have your coworkers around you all the time, you become more aware of the importance of keeping in touch. When you have a question you won’t be able to just get up and ask your supervisor. Instead, you will have to write to her or at least have a video chat. In the process of composing your message or planning the video chat, you will refine your thoughts and questions, which will end up saving both of you time. Effective communication is a great benefit of working remotely.

5. Increased Productivity

Working from home often increases productivity since there will be fewer interruptions, fewer office politics, and quieter noise levels. All of that plus the fact you won’t have to commute will save time and help with productivity. You will be able to control your work situation much more and put the group chat on “do not disturb” when you need to buckle down. The work you accomplish will speak for itself and will show your employer how productive you are.

These are just a few benefits of working remotely. There are others of course but these are the ones I think will encourage you the most! If you aren’t already working from home, I hope these benefits have made you consider going out and getting that remote job that you’ve always dreamed of!
