How to Use Twitter for Business

Twitter is a great platform to increase your business’s online reach. However, to succeed as a business on Twitter, you must be able to stand out. No matter the type of business you are running, you can always find ways to use Twitter to grow your business. Below are just a few tips on how to market your business on Twitter.

Build a Profile that Stands Out

Your Twitter profile is your first impression. Therefore, it’s important to try and make it as impressive as you can. The last thing you want is someone turning away from your Twitter account because you have a Twitter egg as your profile image. Make sure to upload compelling images for the banner and profile picture. Many brands have their logo as the profile image, but the banner is where you can get more creative with your colors and imagery.

Try to make your Twitter handle relevant to your company. You may choose to use your brand name as your Twitter handle (seems obvious right?), but there are a lot of Twitter accounts. What happens when your name is taken? If this happens, try to get creative with the handle so that your business will stand out.

Another thing you can do to make your profile stand out is to update your pinned tweet regularly. Your pinned tweet could be a sale coming up or a new marketing campaign you just launched. Regardless, it’s the first thing your audience will engage with because it stays at the top of your feed. Lastly, make sure you have a good description, website link, and location. All of this belongs on your Twitter profile so your followers know more about your business.

Build a Twitter Community

If you want people to follow you, you will have to start following them first. Now don’t get carried away, you don’t have to follow every single person you come across on twitter. But, it is important to follow those that are a part of your business community and can add some type value to you.

For example, following your customers, friends, related businesses, relevant influencers, and colleagues should benefit you in the long run. Once you get a good following going it is important to engage with that audience. On Twitter, you can do this by being active, like, or retweet other people’s tweets. Additionally, keep tweeting regularly.

Share interesting Content and Images

Twitter is a great platform for sharing interesting information. Therefore, tweeting blog links, images, and videos that your audience will enjoy will help promote what your business stands for. Visuals are a must to get people’s attention, so make sure to add them to your tweets whenever possible. For example, if you are running an online store, you should tweet videos or images of your products. During events, tweet about your latest offers with the link to your products. The most important thing to remember is to always think about your audience before you tweet or retweet something.

Optimize your content

Now that you’ve got the hang of sharing images, you want to make sure people see it. There are a few things you can do to optimize your content on Twitter. The easiest and most common way to spread your content is by using hashtags. Make sure the hashtags you use are relevant to your tweet, and to your business. Also, make sure you are tweeting at least once a day. This will allow your audience to have consistent content, and it will also help with engagement.

Measure results

To measure your results on Twitter, you can use Twitter analytics. It’s located in the drop-down menu when you click on your profile at the top right corner of the Twitter dashboard. One important tip for measuring your performance on Twitter is to focus less on vanity metrics. Vanity metrics (like impressions or follower count) are often high numbers that look good on paper but don’t help you meet your business goals.

For business, it is more important you know how many people clicked on the link you tweeted, or how many people are interacting with you out of your total audience number. By doing this you have a firmer understanding for which content is more popular with your audience.
