Pinterest is a great place to advertise your business. It’s a little different than other social media platforms but it will absolutely help you with marketing for your business. Pinterest is about to release a new feature called “Idea Pins” or “Story Pins” that according to them (Pinterest) will empower anyone to “create inspiring content and better interact with their audiences.” These idea pins will allow you to share video or image content that will display in a full-screen stream view, similar to Instagram Stories. The best part about idea pins is that they do not expire after 24 hours. Once the idea pin is created it is forever available to be discovered by Pinterest users. Below I will list a few tips to help you get started with this new feature.

1. Tell a Story

One of the best things that you can do for these story pins is to do just that, tell a story. If you structure your idea pins like a real story but include bite-sized portions of inspiring or helpful content, you will create an engaging viewing experience for your audience. If you want people to interact with these pins, plan them with a beginning, middle, and end.

2. Tag Topics and Fill Out the Description Box

One cool feature about idea pins is that you can tag topics to help Pinterest categorize them (similar to hashtags on other platforms). Therefore, you should use these tags to make your idea pins more discoverable on Pinterest. Pinterest also created a description box to help you provide more detailed information to the story (if you want to of course). Keep in mind that the description box could be helpful if you want your audience to know more about a specific product or idea.

3. Use a Subtle Call-To-Action

Try to think of story pins as a stepping stone, through showing your face and sharing your voice to make a more personal connection with your audience. Therefore, one of the best things you could do is to use subtle messages to drive your intended audience to action. Asking for a quick follow, re-pin, or even sharing your website link as a useful resource are all things that you can add to your story pins. However, it is important to remember to be careful not to overdo this because you don’t want your audience to get annoyed with constant advertisements on your idea pins. The word “subtle” is the important piece to this tip. Perhaps including a call-to-action on every other story pin would be best.

4. Upload a Compelling Cover Image

This tip is pretty self-explanatory. Try to include an eye-catching image or video in the first slide of your Story Pin so that people will be engaged. The first slide is what tells people what your story is about with just a glance, and the hope is that they will keep watching the rest.

5. Use All the Space you Need

Perhaps you can’t fit everything you want to say in five slides and you want to add more, worry no more! Story Pins offer you up to 20 pages of content each. Therefore, if an idea needs to be fleshed out a little more, just add more pages to the story pin and make the content the best it can be.

Idea Pins or Story Pins (whichever you prefer to call them) is a new feature on the social media platform, Pinterest. Creativity is where it’s at with this new feature.
