It is no surprise that you are using social media for your business. Social media is how you can connect to customers, and how you can give your business that personal touch. However, to continue growing your business on social media, it is necessary to create habits to help keep you on track.

Here are a few habits to help your business succeed with social media:

1. Listen to your Audience

If you’ve been using social media for your business, you know that without your audience, you have nothing. To succeed on social media, it is important to listen to what your customers want instead of just posting whatever content with no regard for your audience.

Pay attention to what your consumers are saying, then take that information to create more content. In this way, you can see what works and what doesn’t, what gets engagement, and what gets ignored. By playing off what your audience likes, you ensure that your customers are satisfied.

2. Set Clear and Attainable Goals

It is important to set goals when promoting your business on social media. The more specific the goal, the better. It is easy to set goals that are too far out of your reach. For example, if you want to increase your Instagram followers, you should have a specific number or percentage in mind, instead of just saying, “I want 1 million followers”.

By having specific goals, it gives you a clear visualization of what matters to your business. By saying, “I want to increase my Instagram followers by 500 because it will increase my exposure with potential clients” you’re giving yourself a clear objective without setting goals that are too out of reach.

3. Track and Analyze Data

If you want to get ahead, you need to learn from the past. To build a  future for your business, you must track, measure, and adjust as needed. Break down your goals (see #2) and pay attention to the data that affects them. If something isn’t working, adjust it.

If you’re just tossing content out there and you’re not measuring its effectiveness, how are you going to make it better? Keep track of what works and what doesn’t so you can continuously improve on social media.

4. Engage and connect with your customers

The point of social media is to be social. Try to build meaningful relationships with your customers. Why? Because without them, there’s no business. Comment on their thoughts and opinions, and let them know that you value them as a customer.

By doing this, you begin to build trust with your clients. They start to see a personality behind the business, which makes your business more authentic and personable.

5. Use the Different Social Media Platforms in Different Ways

Every social media platform is different and to succeed with your business on social media, you should take advantage of that. Each platform has certain types of content that outshine the rest and certain posting times that usually gets more engagement.

For example, videos do well on Instagram and Facebook, but not so well on Pinterest.

Facebook seems to get more engagement during the day, and Pinterest performs better in the evening. Paying attention to these differences can truly help you succeed in marketing your business.
